Your Care Instructions When you swallow food, liquid, or an object, it passes from your mouth and goes down your throat and esophagus and into your stomach.
How can you care for yourself at home? Take pain medicines exactly as directed. If the doctor gave you a prescription medicine for pain, take it as prescribed.
If you are not taking a prescription pain medicine, ask your doctor if you can take an over-the-counter medicine.
If your doctor prescribed antibiotics, take them as directed. Do not stop taking them just because you feel better. You need to take the full course of antibiotics. Drink liquids. If swallowing liquids is easy, try eating soft foods like bread or bananas. If these foods are easy to swallow, start to add other foods. Avoid very hot or very cold foods. If you swallowed an object and it has passed through to your stomach, try eating foods that are high in fibre, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
These foods may help you pass the object more quickly. Watch your stools to see if the object has passed. Do not use a laxative unless your doctor says that it is okay. Do not smoke. Smoking can irritate your throat and your esophagus even more. If you need help quitting, talk to your doctor about stop-smoking programs and medicines.
These can increase your chances of quitting for good. To prevent swallowing objects or choking: Cut food into small pieces. Eat slowly, take small bites, and chew your food all the way. Do not laugh or talk with food in your mouth. I'm at my wit's end. How can I get better so I can eat normal food without feeling like I'm choking afterwards? Is there anything you can do to help a scratch on your esophagus heal???? MC MF over a year ago. Never underestimate this condition! A lot of people just deal with the fact that this could be a simple lump in throat that happens because you are stressed.
It is very important to observe early warning signs of this lump in the throat. Those early symptoms also include neck or throat pain, in rare occasion weight loss, some pain, choking, difficulty swallowing. Also, you can deal with spitting up food and muscle weakness. Those signs are very often a sign of some more serious issue that requires medical treatment. SleeplessInLA over a year ago.
Omg, I am having your exact symptoms! However, I have not gone to see anyone about this issue, for fear they will not see. What did you find out. How did it resolve?? I'm just waiting to see if it clears up on its own. Guest over a year ago. Well, I went to a gastro, they did an endoscope. The choking feeling is gone now. All the doctor saw was some mild gastritis. However, they did dilate my esophagus, and that probably did it.
The doctor said sometimes there is a flap of skin in the esophagus that isn't visible to the eye, but is still big enough to get aggravated when eating and causing the choking sensation.
I don't know that the choking feeling was related to the gastritis Before the endoscope, the gastro thought I might have had something called eosophlic esophagitis I spelled it wrong, but something like that Turns out I didn't have that, but the symptoms were very similar to what I experienced, so that might be worth looking into for you.
The endoscope scared me a little going into it, but it went fine. I get the occasional stomach pain now, but I can at least eat without the choking feeling.
Chris T. Christos Ttofiros over a year ago. About 10 years ago i scrached my thoat with a chipped off peice of hard boiled sweet. I had problems for the next few weeks every time i ate. If food ever scratched or got caught in that area the sensation would be back, but would usually go within minutes, hours or days. But i learned to deal with it as i knew the sensation would go. But then i was eating a pringle crisp 2 months ago and it seemed to scratch or stick in that part of my throat, it made me throw up and i expected the sensation to go within a few hours or days.
But 3 weeks past and the sensation never really went, a bit of a living nightmare especially when trying to eat, so i went to the doctors, only to be told its nothing to worry about and it could be something called globus sensation.
But that appointment isn't for another 2 months?! I can't enjoy eating, i have to try and ear only soft foods where i can. But i seem to just keep aggravating that area so the sensation won't go away. It won't let my mind stop being anxious because its telling me to panic as my throat feels like there is something in there or scarred sensation isn't going to go away.
Its really starting to get me down and take over!! Couldn't find what you looking for? New Reply Follow New Topic. MC MF over a year ago Good day there.
