Cavaricci pants, the argyle for days, and the many peppy, preppy girls who happily answered to Jennifer, Jessica…or Muffy. Ladies and Gentlemen: Birdie has landed. Really, the avian references just write themselves. Author and former book editor Bridie Clark just misses the mark with those transposed letters, but comes awfully close.
Like the tunes of Fiona Apple or Bon Iver? A mystery: was it their marriage or the era as her cage? Birdie is a natural nickname to take any remaining mustiness down a notch.

I really like that, but at this age it would be difficult to change my nickname! I do remember in junior high one year insisting my friends call me Beatrice. Then the next year it was near impossible to get them to switch back to Bea!
Raised in Texas, my mother pronounced it Be-at-ris. I have switched to Be-uh-tris, which sounds less hickish to me. I love Beatrice! If I use it, I plan on the nickname, Bea. I also like Bebe or Birdie. Beatrice is beautiful old name, it reminds me of antique lace! I once knew a Beatrice in school who went by the nickname Becky, surprisingly enough. She also went by Beezus from the Beverly Clearly books. Late reading this post, but I know a Beatrice who goes by Beedie, which is unusual but really grew on me!
I love Bebe and Trixie, but when we were considering Beatrice for our second child, I like the nickname Bliss. Oh, how I would love it if my husband would agree on Beatrice! Birdie is an adorable nickname. I think it totally could work for Beatrice too. Love Beatrice. Even more fun with all the nicknames. Would be lovely to have a little Beatrice. That is an awesome nickname, Gilbert — thanks for adding it to the list! We have always called our daughter Beech as a nickname, or Beat rice and peas. My great grandmother was a Beatrice and her sometimes nickname was Betty!! Love it!!! I think Betsy is a really nice nickname for Beatrice or Beatrix.
